10 Reasons Owning a Swimming Pool is Good for the Soul

BRN Swimming ChildIf you’re already a pool owner, chances are you have your top reasons owning your pool is good for the mind, body, and soul. If you’re not, read this list and you might just want to have one of your own. We came up with our 10 top reasons owning a swimming pool is good for your health, happiness, and entire family.

10 Reasons:

  1. Fitness. This is perhaps the most obvious reason of having a swimming pool, you have the opportunity to work out and strengthen yourself just by going in your back yard. Not only can adults get a work out through swimming, your children will benefit immensely. No more summertime spent entirely in front of the TV. Families that have pools in their yard are usually the source of enjoyment for all the neighborhood children. Swimming every day in the summer is incredibly healthy for your children and will help them fight childhood obesity, as well as other weight-related issues.
  2. Family time. Family dinners every night together are a rarity now-a-days. People’s schedules are busy- even the kids have busy schedules! Everyone is entranced by their iPod, iPad, iPhone, etc. Family time is seriously on the down hill. Having a swimming pool can be an excellent way to get the family together for a good time. People of all ages enjoy a good dip in the hot summer heat. If you combine swimming with a backyard barbecue or a smoothie party, everyone will enjoy it.
  3. ‘Stay’cations. This is like a vacation, except you stay right where you are. As people’s wallets become tighter, vacations aren’t as common. It’s still important to take time off from work and just RELAX. This can be easily accomplished at your own home with a pool.
  4. Stress reliever. There is no better stress reliever than splashing around in the pool with your kids. If you don’t have kids, you might want to just relax in the pool with a cocktail at hand. Swimming can be a great exercise and way to relieve stress as well. If you are on the fence about owning a pool, consider this benefit.
  5. Kids’ sleeping habits. This can be a struggle, especially during the summertime for parents. Kids don’t want to stick to their strict bedtime routines, they are hyper at night, and probably eat too many sugared popsicles. There is no better way to completely wear out your child than to let them swim in your pool all day long. After a day of this, they will be ready to sleep as soon as their head hits the pillow. No more needing to argue over sleep time.
  6. Communal space. Having a pool allows you to have the ability to be the central hub for all community and family activities. This may not be for every family, but some people really enjoy this benefit. You will be able to hold church activities, birthday parties, family parties, graduations, just about any time of gathering you can think of. Everyone just needs to grab a suit and jump in.
  7. Therapy. For some, especially the older folk, swimming is a great form of therapy. It’s known as ‘aquatic therapy’. This form of exercise is extremely helpful for the body while also being easy on the joints. It’s perfect for those suffering from fibromyalgia, cerebral palsy, and other illnesses.
  8. Grandchildren. If you are fortunate enough to have grandchildren, you will understand what we are saying. What child could be more excited to spend a summer day at grandma and grandpa’s then one who is looking forward to a fun day of swimming? This will make your house the magnet for all the grandchildren! Who knows, you might be asking them to come over less often.
  9. A reason to stay home. This is not the same as a ‘stay’cation. This is more of an, shall we say, excuse. If your child wants to go to a questionable friends house to spend the night, why not invite them over to swim and stay the night at your house? Get invited to a party you just really don’t want to go to? You can have a scheduled family day in your pool.
  10. Increased home value. It is said that inground fiberglass and concrete pools can increase the value of your home on average 5%. It is a common myth that owning a pool will actually decrease the value of your home, when we are not finding this to be true at all.
