Ask the Pool Guy Hits the Road

Al and the team look forward to “pool show season” every year, always on the search for new ideas and products to incorporate into current and future projects. They kicked off travel season with the International Pool Spa Patio Expo in Orlando, Florida on November 5-6.

Orlando Pool Show Nov 2014 (49)Of course, it’s not all work and no play–the team worked hard all summer, and winter travel leaves time for fun. The highlight of this trip was a miniature golf outing to Pirate Cove before the show on the 6th. It just so happened to be the Pool Guy’s birthday and, in true Pool Guy fashion, he multi-tasked his celebration, gathering inspiration and ideas for his current Goonies and pirate themed project. It’s always great for artists to take inspiration from other artists’ work, and Al was definitely inspired by the beautifully themed Cove.

Although much stays the same, Al and his team are always looking for innovations in the pool industry and new products to incorporate into projects. This year, the Expo brought in a landscaping pavilion which featured outdoor furniture and entertaining elements. The Pool Guy particularly enjoyed the outdoor room provided by Housewarmings, and is really looking forward to offering some of their products in future pool designs.

The “world’s fastest hot tub” was a Orlando Pool Show Nov 2014 (140)big hit, and the team also got to meet Brett and Wayde from popular the Animal Planet show “Tanked,” and were able to get a few photos. The Pool Guy was left unattended (always a risky move) at the AQUA magazine booth. He was able to record some video on the show floor, interview Brett from Tanked, and interview Scott Webb, executive editor of AQUA magazine, where Al is a regular article contributor.Orlando Pool Show Nov 2014 (115)

Al also gave a “splash talk” in the Splash Networking Area about how social media like YouTube, Houzz, and Facebook have helped him land clients and jobs. His talk drew a large and attentive audience, soaking in each tip and technique he shared. The Ask the Pool Guy team has really enjoyed expanding its online presence, and Al loves to share his marketing and networking knowledge with others.

The Pool Guy and his team had a great time at the first of many pool shows for the season. They’re looking forward to heading to more shows (and warmer climates) this winter, to keep searching for new innovations and making new friends in the pool industry.Orlando Pool Show Nov 2014 (196)
