How to “Go Green” With Your Pool

Legendary Escape pool“Going green” is a very popular trend… and a good one to be a part of as well. No, it does not mean green pool water. It means having more eco-friendly approaches to your pool and pool water. It is not only friendly for the environment but your wallet as well. Oftentimes investing more money on a sustainability at first saves money in the long run.

How can I become more eco-friendly?

A good place to start is investing in a variable-speed pump. This will use less electricity and be better for the environment and your energy bill. Another option is to convert your pool to a salt generator. This will eliminate the need for the harsh chemicals such as chlorine; it also eliminates the waste that comes along with the production, packaging, and transportation of chlorine.

Adding ozone to your salt system is another popular trend. Ozone is a coagulant. It will gather small particles in your water into bigger ones so you will see a slightly better water quality. Ozone reduces the amount of chlorine needed (aka the amount of salt needed to produce the chlorine in your pool).

Another option for a greener pool is what’s called a natural swimming pond. There are no chemicals involved in the running and maintenance of swimming ponds. These “pools” have three zones: deep, middle, and shallow. Each zone has water plants that aid in the water chemistry. All swimming ponds need is a skimmer basket and to be vacuumed out occasionally. Due to their low maintenance, they reduce energy usage. The plants encourage wildlife in your backyard as well.

No every pool owner wants to swim in a swimming pond, so if that’s not for you, give us a call! We’d love to give you a complimentary quote on a salt water pool conversion.
