I have spent the last 24 years of my life living, breathing and emersing myself in the swimming pool business. What astounds me the most about it is the lack of fun in it. It should be all about FUN. All of us making a living in the swimming pool business take it way to seriously. When is the last time you really belly roll laughed? I hope it has been recently. And when has the swimming pool industry made you laugh so hard it hurt?
Our business is built on discretionary dollars. Those dollars are spent by people looking to improve their lives in some way or another. The desire to feel good and have fun is such a strong human emotion that we all long for. Why wouldn’t we use that to our advantage and give them what they seek. At what point do you sacrifice your desire for happiness in exchange for dollars?
It is time for the swimming pool industry to let loose and have fun! I know that we do here at Ask the Pool Guy each and every day. We promise to always have fun and bring the party wherever we show up! I learned this lesson many years ago at a weekly networking meeting that I used to attend. We had to choose a name out of a hat and show up the following week as that person and represent their business. A gal named Karen Gill showed up as me. She was wearing a duck float around her waist and stood up and to the group how fun her business was and how awesome it was to know that she made people smile. As I sat there in awe, I couldn’t believe that she was representing my business. From that moment on, my swimming pool business was about FUN! My life and business changed forever.
