Pool Heater FAQ: E05 and Sound of Rocks

Q: After I turn the heater on for a few seconds the temperature fluctuates and then an error light E05 goes on,but there is a sound of rocks or sand or gravel where the thermostat is located, where the water come in and out the water heater.

A: The sound of rocks is typically a sound of the water boiling. Either the thermal regulator is shot, there’s scaling in the heat exchanger, or your water flow isn’t strong enough. Start with removing the regulator and looking to see if the spring is broken or if the thermostat is scaled or rusted.
