Water Haulers – Michigan

If you need to fill a swimming pool there are a few ways you can approach filling the pool.

City/Municipal Water:

You can use the hose and fill from your water supply. If you have city water, you will typically be charged for both the water going into the pool, and the city will often charge a discharge fee as well. There used to be cases where a homeowner could let the municipal water supply know that a pool was filling and they would forgive the discharge fee, but we have heard that most places have discontinued offering that option. If you fill your pool with water from a city or municipal source, please test your source water so you know what it contains. Some areas treat the water to give it a high pH and adding water with a high pH to a swimming pool can cause the water to turn colors, and to create scale in the pool. You will want to know what the water is made up of so you can adjust your water chemistry accordingly.

Well Water:

You can use well water to fill your pool. In many Michigan areas (and around the country) well water can contain a lot of iron or other minerals which can cause staining and discoloration of swimming pool water and pool surfaces. If you live in an area with high iron content, consider putting the water through a pre-filter before adding to the pool. You can also use a product such as the FerriIron Tablets to remove the iron from the pool water itself. FerriIron Tablets work best with sand filters, and yes, they will remove the iron entirely from the pool. If you have a pool that has any staining or discoloration from iron/rust you can pre-treat with Natural Chemistry Stain Free, and then use FerriIron Tablets for removal.

If you would prefer to fill your pool with a truck, here are some local companies that will be able to assist. Please know how many gallons of water you will need so you can specify if you need one truck or two with the hauler when you call. It is also helpful to know how long the hose run is from the truck which will park on the street, to the pool area. They need to know how many hoses to bring, and how many they will have to set up to deliver the water to your pool.

Water Chemistry:
However you fill your pool, you will then need to balance your water chemistry to make sure it’s got just the right balance for swimmer comfort, and to keep your pool equipment and surface in the best condition possible. Please refer to our water chemistry guides, or book Ask the Pool Guy’s Everyday Guide to Swimming Pools for help in balancing your pool water.
