The Power of the Sun: Extending Your Swim Season

Exploring solar pool heating

There’s nothing better than a hot summer full of pool parties, relaxing evenings, and many nights spent by your pool. Unfortunately, when the weather cools down, it becomes more difficult to enjoy your pool. That’s were heaters come in- they keep your pool at its optimal temperature no matter the weather. Solar pool heating is a great heating solution. They are very economical and can significantly cut back your energy costs.

How They Work:

Solar heaters are made of black, specifically designed plastic tubes. These tubes are laid out on a roof or some surface to form a mat formation. This is known as a ‘solar collector’. When used with a pool, the pool water is pumped from the pool filter through the solar collector, then filtered back to the pool. The water is heated from the sun’s radiating energy (similar to a garden hose lying in the sun). The continued circulation of water through the solar heater and back into your pool gradually warms up the water, making it comfortable in cooler temperatures.

Price:

The only costs you will have with regards to a solar heater is the initial solar heater purchase and the energy cost required to run the solar pump. The solar pump is what pushes the water through the solar absorber. Still unsure? Solar pool heating pays for itself in just a few years.
