Spillover Groove

When constructing a sheeting spillover spa, we usually use stone. The lip is a sharp 90 degree angle down so surface tension isn’t the issue. Our issue is that water tends to roll back to the spa wall. We have heard of using some sort of groove to prevent this from happening, is there any standard to making this groove? Thanks in advance.
