Salt Cell Generator Failure

We replaced our original salt generator in June 2018 after 5 years of use. We calculated our 10,00 hours would mean an estimated life of 4.5 years give or take. But this week the cell has failed. It has power to the cell, the fuse is good, we have lights but the cell does not turn on. It’s an Intellichlor unit and our pool is a small inground, 11′ by 22′ and average depth is 4 feet. We have a VS pump and run the pump 6 hours per day. Any suggestions on what could be the problem? And would it be a benefit to try to convert to chlorine rather than salt for the pool? We’ve heard pros and cons to both and have enjoyed the water qualities of the salt system. Thanks for any insight you can provide.
