I backwash my filters and wash my salt cell with Muriatic Acid regularly. Even with no DE in the system my water flow seems slower than it should.
What would be the implications of plumbing two outlets for flow: one for the salt cell and the second for unrestricted flow?
Presuming high flow of water is a major key to filtering and maintaining water, is there an ideal setup for optimal flow? i.e. Cartridge vs DE or Sand etc
If you have a DE Filter you should take the grids out to soak them in an acid/water solution and check for damage to the grids and to remove any caked on DE and debris.
Be careful, you can shorten the life of a salt cell with too frequent cleanings. They should only be subjected to an acid cleaning when the cells show signs of calcification.
Often on our systems we install a bypass if the water flow is too high for a salt cell with a valve on it to be able to throttle. Especially with variable speed pumps, the flow rate can be too high for a salt cell (and in some cases a filter and heater) to handle at full flow. Consult the owners manual for your salt cell and your pool pump and filter, and heater for the appropriate turn over rates for the pool and flow rates for the pool equipment.
