Your pump basket is located at the front of your pump housing. It has a clear lid to view the water inside the pump. The basket has a hold in the front which allows debris into the pump and captures it before getting into the pump impeller or the filter.
To clean the pump basket:
First step- make sure you turn the pump power off! Never service your pool equipment while the power is still on. It may help you to close your main drain or skimmer valves depending on your pool plumbing and equipment location.
Turn off return valve, then remove the lid from the pump. *Be sure to note how the basket sits in the pump so you can put it back the exact way you found it.
Empty the basket so it is completely free of debris. Clean the basket with a garden hose or grab a bucket and scoop some water from the pool, insert pump basket, and give it a good swish upside down.
Remove the lid from the pump housing (front part of the pump). Now it’s time to check the O-ring to ensure it fits properly and is lubricated. If the O-ring gets dry or cracked it can allow water leaks or air- neither of which is good.
Make sure your pump has water and replace the pump lid. Now you can re-open your valves if you closed them for pool service. Turn all equipment back on. You know your pup is working when you are able to see water begin to enter the pump through the see-through lid. If pump does not fully prime or move water after a minute or two you may have to re-prime and troubleshoot.
