I began my swimming pool career 24 years ago. I was fortunate to have a brother with a connection to a local swimming pool company. My brother Rick arranged a summer job for me between my sophomore and junior year in college with that company. I started earlier in the pool season than most college kids because my school got out early. After 2 weeks of general labor on inground vinyl liner swimming pool construction, I was put on a spring Swimming pool opening crew. Seven days a week for 6 weeks straight, I opened pools. There couldn’t have been a better crash course in swimming pools than seeing 4 to 6 different pools a day, 7 days a week for 6 weeks. I think in those six weeks, my destiny was determined. Now I am going into my 24th opening season without missing a day. What a ride.
