I have a good amount of calcium buildup on the waterline of my aquabright finished in ground pool.
i have been told that a 1:3 Muratic Acid to water might damage the aquabright finish on my pool/
is that true? If so, what’s the recommended way to clean up the calcium build up that is present.
We have not found that muriatic acid will cause damage to pools where we have calcium buildup, it is what we typically use. You may want to do a test section first to make sure it’s okay with your particular application, but we have found it to work on most of our pools.
Alternatively you can add acid to your water to drop the alkalinity and pH and overfill the pool for a few days so it has the chance to fully submerge those areas and brush over several days to see if it will lessen the buildup. I’d go to 80 for alkalinity and 7.4 for pH – and depending on your pool type make sure the calcium is around 200, not on the higher side toward 400. If it is and you can waste some water and add fresh that may help as well.
