I recently opened my pool. I have a 1.2 cooper level. My pool place is telling me I don’t need to do anything because I have a heater. My pool chemical supply place is telling me I need to treat my water or drain the pool. Can you please help me know who is correct? Most things online say to TZ or empty. IDK why my pool place is telling me not to.
would find a new pool place. The copper is likely coming out of your heater -when water gets aggressive (low alkalinity/pH) and temperature fluctuations over the winter can change the water quite a bit – it will leech copper out of the heater and put it in the water. So you’re likely going to have a leaking heater at some point in the future (just use it as it is now until it becomes an issue). You should remove the copper from the pool – if you have a sand filter our FerriTabs will work, seaklear water clarifier is also helpful. If your pool place didn’t give you this advice, time to find someone who knows more about water chemistry/balancing and the causes of things like this. Another potential source of copper is algaecide if you use one that is copper based. If you haven’t, then chances are strong it is indeed from the heater.
I wouldn’t drain the pool. I’d try to sequester some of the copper with the chemicals I mentioned, but as far as swimming you should be fine.
