Floc in winter

Hello,
I’ve had some trouble with pool this year, cloudy, then turns green, goes back to good color but stays cloudy. The lady at the pool place said I needed to change the sand. It’s too late in the season for that, plus I got a small leak in the pump so that need to be replaced. I told her I was just going to go ahead and close it. She said I should put in five bags of shock, one bottle of algaecide, and one bottle of Pool-Floc before covering. So I started looking up algaecide and shock, what I found is they will cancel each other out, so don’t use the algaecide for closing. Then I started looking up the floc, apparently you are not supposed to leave the floc for a long period of time. I’m so confused now I don’t know where to start. I think I’m just going to put in the shock and close it up and do the floc in spring. Just looking for advice. Thanks in advance.
Steve
