How to winterize Hybrid Pool

I just had a hybrid pool installed in New York. It will need winterizing as temperatures drop well below zero. I am looking at the set up and it seems like there are a number of problems trying to winterize the pool. The filter, valves, pump and heater are all about 1.5 ft below the top surface of the pool and below the height of both the skimmer and the returns. There is no bypass between the pump and the filter, and no bypass after the filter. It appears to me that water will freeze in all of the pipes without draining and blowing out, but I am not sure how to go about draining and evacuating the pipes given the set up. Should I drain the pool below the level of the returns and then blow out from there with the filter open? Or can I drain only to below the skimmer level and force air out of the returns and then quickly plug them? In general, is it a really bad idea to have a straight connection between the pump and filter (cartridge style), so there is no way to by pass and drain the pool away from the equipment? Thanks
