ic40: Is it ok to have the cell powered with no flow?

3.28K viewsSalt Generator

Hey Brother. I have a pentair intellichore salt cell, and a new variable speed pump. The pump needs constant power to automatically run its cycle, so the salt cell stays on 24/7 as well with constant power. Is this ok to have the cell powered with no flow/ or will it destroy the unit. Please advise.

Per Pentair:

(Owners Manual Link)

IntelliChlor (SCG) AC Wiring Instructions: When using the IntelliChlorSCG and an IntelliFlo pump (or 2-speed pump) with an IntelliTouch®,EasyTouch® or SunTouch® Control System, the IntelliChlor SCG AC power center wires must be connected to the LOAD SIDE OF THE MAIN FILTER PUMP RELAY located in the load/power center (see page 27 for diagram). This ensures that the IntelliChlor SCG cell produces chlorine only when the main filter pump is on. This method does not require a ground fault circuit-interrupter(GFCI) to protect the circuit.

IMPORTANT: When using IntelliChlor SCG with an IntelliTouch Control System, it is recommended to wire the Power Center to the pump side of the relay located in the IntelliTouchControl System Load Center. This method does not require a ground fault circuit-interrupter(GFCI) to protect the circuit.

Note: A TIME CLOCK must be used if the IntelliChlor SCG is used in “stand alone” mode without an automation control system.
