Intelliflo – Priming Dry Alarm without pump running

Hi,
My 12 year old pump has run mostly without issue. A month ago, I replaced the circuit breaker in the panel and it has been running fine since then and was running fine before then. I know it’s old and might have other problems, perhaps that’s why the breaker wore out, but I’m wondering about this alarm, which I have never seen. The pump is located above the water level, but it has always had no problem self-priming.

Not that it matters, but I replaced the cartridge filter elements yesterday and decided to run the pump overnight because I had a lot of algae that had accumulated and I wanted the water to get cleaned up. I don’t know if it shut down overnight and then failed on restarting per the schedule or not. It just wasn’t running this morning when I went out there. I have cycled the power numerous times and flooded the suction and cleared the baskets.

What’s strange is that it doesn’t even try to run. My understanding is that it only knows of a priming failure if it tries to run and times out before achieving discharge pressure. It’s not even trying to run. I get this alarm within about 5 seconds after resetting, so it doesn’t even sound like it’s a full timeout. Is my drive toast?

Thanks,
Dave

The issue with the pump could be due to age some of the mechianicals have worn out. It’s possible you need a new drive (and likely).
