No bonding grid, installed a PoolTool anode, but should I connect the bonding wire to the pool bond connector, the pump ground nut to make it more effective? Will it help protect the replacement Pentair 400 I just installed.

Sounds like you should consult with a pool tech or electrical technician. You definitely need to be sure you have proper bonding and grounding!
