Plug stuck in skimmer

2.19K views

The plug in the skimmer where the gizmo goes when closing the pool is stuck and I can’t remove it. I have tried a basin wrench without success. This is an in ground pool with I believe a Hayward skimmer. I have a salt system pool. This plug is very difficult to get a hold on and is deep within the skimmer. Thanks for any help you can offer.

Do you have a skimmer with one hole or two? If it has two – typically one is permanently put in if the second hole is not used for an equalization line.

Alternatively to a gizmo – you can leave a plug in, fill the skimmer with antifreeze and put the empty antifreeze bottle upside down inside the skimmer. It acts in the same way as a gizmo and allows for expansion of ice without breaking the skimmer housing.
