powering an intellichlor with vs pump

So I have a 25000 gallon vinal pool and I have a intelliflow VS pump that is wired strait to a breaker box and I have it programmed to run throughout the day.

I would like to change my pool to salt water and I have been looking at the intelichlor salt cells.  I am planning on going with the intellichlor 40.  So that being said I am looking for the easiest way to hook up the intellichlor.  The “normal” way is to hook the cell to the pump timer.  This is not the case with a VS pump.

The issue I seem to be having is when the pump shuts off the intellichlor will not shut off.  I am told that will be an issue with the cell possibly overheating.  I think that there is some kind of communication that needs to take place and it’s not as simple as a contact from the pump to the cell.

I am looking for the simplest solution.  My pool is simple and does not need automation.

Owners/Install Manual for Pentair intellichlor

Power the cell via the breaker for the pump itself. The salt cell has a flow sensor that will only allow it to work (ie produce) when it senses enough flow. You are correct though, you never want the unit to have power if the pump does not have power as well.

Some of the newer pumps allow you to connect to the pump itself – you may want to see if that is an option on your model.
