Sand filter change to glass media, how to stop water flow

Hello, I need to change my sand and I was told the glass media works better so I ordered 3 bags from the pool supply store online. The way my pool is setup the water is connected constantly so how do I stop the water from running into the pump? Do you suggest I just remove the hoses coming from the pool or is there a simpler solution? I am a female trying to do this as there are no above gound pool techs in my area. I live in Quincy, FL. Also my filter requires 150lbs of sand and it shows 120lbs of glass media, do I need to add water before or after adding the glass media? And if so how much water should be added?

Thanks

You can plug the pipe coming from the pool, or yes, you can remove the pipe and keep it plugged during the swap. If you have a multiport and you can put it on closed, that may also do the trick. Hopefully you got coarse glass and fine, the coarse needs to go in the filter on the bottom/covering the laterals and the fine on top of that. Once the new sand is in the the lid is back on the filter you can remove any plugs you added and start the system. Use the air bleeder plug to get the air out of the filter and the water will fill it back up. Kudos to you for tackling this yourself, and good luck!
