Good Morning,
My Jandy Salt system is not working right now. Should I put Liquid Chlorine in my 11,000 gallon pool to keep the chlorine level up? I have put chlorine tabs in to assist but I am still not reading adequate chlorine levels. Thank you very much for your time.

Yes, you can and should add liquid chlorine to your salt water pool if you need a boost in available chlorine. It’s the fastest acting of the chlorine types available – though it is also used up the quickest. If you are having trouble keeping a residual of chlorine – either superchlorinate to break the bonds chlorine has made converting the free available chlorine to “locked” chlorine and not available to sanitize. To superchlorinate you’re looking for about 10x your total chlorine or combined chlorine level.

Also – check your stabilizer level. Target = 40ppm. Too little and chlorine doesn’t last long in your pool, too much and the chlorine isn’t released to do it’s job.

Good luck!

PS: here is our favorite test kit for our technicians. Takes the guess work out of what the actual levels are:
