What is my pool lacking if my stairs and skimmers are turning yellow, and the only thing that will clean them is crushed vitamin C in a sock?

If ascorbic acid is taking the stain off it’s metals – likely iron. Depending on your filtration system, the FerriTabs we sell are the best we’ve found to trap and remove the iron. If it’s not much, then the SeaKlear water clarifier should help take it out.

Metals deposit on the pool surface if the pH goes high. They reabsorb into the water when the pH and alkalinity (and calcium) go down, but that is also when you’ll start to see damage to the surface of the pool and copper in a heater.

So – lift the stain with the acid, then use some type of metal remover. If you have iron in your source water from a well etc. you can use ferritabs when you add water each time to prevent the stain from happening. *Are your skimmer screws turning orange?
