Water color turned a clear tea-greenish color

1.42K views

Installed a new liner 15x24x4, and had the pool filled via water truck from a company I use for that purpose routinely. It looked pristine as you can imagine.
The next day I added 3 chlorine tabs to the skimmer, that’s it.
Within about 45 minutes, the water color turned a clear tea-greenish color. I thought maybe the water load had a higher than normal copper content, but testing at the pool store on their analyzer indicated 1%.
What’s your guess on this mystery? It’s never happened before and I’ve had the pool for 20 plus years and used the same chlorine as last season (same container.)

Thanks!

Thank you for your reply. As it turned out, all I did was backwash the DE filter 3x after running the pump for a full day noting each time that the dirty DE appeared to be dark brown for just a few seconds coming out. There is no heater involved. I think your analysis about iron is likely correct. The pool is now crystal clear again. I was astonished that by adding three tabs to the untreated water could do such a thing. The ph was elevated also, but only had to add 1/3 bottle.
