No silicone is needed on gaskets for a vinyl liner pool. Sometimes a waterproof product such as Boss801 can be used on the gasket that goes on the main drain under a liner to keep it in place during the install. Typically the gaskets themselves along with the proper tightening of the faceplates and returns are sufficient.
