Leak Detecting 101

Leak Detection:

Determine the Amount of Water Loss

Phase 1. mark with a sharpie marker the water level in the pool (on the step or skimmer are perfect places to do this). With the pool off for 24 hours, check the level, and report the amount of water loss (if any). *In addition fill a bucket with water. Place the bucket on the pool step. Mark the water level in the bucket and leave it in place during Phase 1. Measure the water level after 24 hours and record that finding as well.

Phase 2. Mark the level again on the pool. Run the pool only for 24 hours, recheck the level, report the amount of water loss, (if any).

Phase 3: Plug the returns with rubber plugs (used for winterizing). Mark the water level. Measure the water level in 24 hours.

Use a ruler to check the pool water level. Do not run the heater during the test. Report the findings and we’ll discuss and figure out the next best plan of action.
