Pool liner ripped around main drain after closing pool

Hey I have a question, We had a company close our inground vinyl liner pool in sept 2021 for the season, when they came and opened our pool in March 2022 after removing cover pool had completely drained and there was a huge tear around main drain, I believe the pool rapidly drained immediately after closing due to the sound of the water under liner. I have tried every way to figure out why this happened. I do have a HRV in main drain. I believe possibly when pool was being shut down for season that blowing lines may have somehow opened the HRV allowing the water to rapidly leak out. I have been told we do not need the HRV in a vinyl liner pool. Is it possible the pool closing triggered the HRV open creating this total loss of liner? also do you recommend using an HRV with new liner? Our pool is 9ft on deep end. I would appreciate any help you may can give. We have been waiting since 3/24/22 to have new liner installed, apparently there is an issue getting liner at least that is what pool repairman is telling us. It is very frustrating. Thanks so much for your thoughts, Mike

Sometimes things happen. Its possible the HRV opened, we have seen it happen before. We haven’t seen them on a vinyl liner pool however, since groundwater would float a liner it’s not often used here. Maybe your area/ground conditions warrant this additional precaution. Sometimes it does take a while to get liners, and install them when the weather conditions are best and you aren’t experiencing a particular rainy season.
