FAQ: I’d like to convert my baquacil pool to a salt generating pool. Is this a good idea?

This question came in from a viewer on our YouTube channel:

Hello,

If you don’t mind helping me out, I would greatly appreciate it. I currently an using Baquacil for my IG 19×37 vinyl pool. However, this spring when I open the pool, I think I am going to switch to chlorine. Do you like these “new” salt systems? If so which one (brand) would you recommend. OR Should I stay away from a salt generator?

Thanks
Tim

Response to Tim:

It’s a great idea to switch to the chlorine generating system. You’ll have the benefits of the chlorination, with the ease of maintenance and the softer water due to the salt content.

The brand we’d recommend is Pentair’s Intellichlor system, it’s also the one we install on all of our new construction, and the first one we recommend if someone is adding one to their pool. The Hayward AquaRite is also a good option.

You’ll also need about 20-25 50# bags of pool salt (purchase from someone who stocks actual pool salt).
